'Four shop fit-out projects at Westfield'

AirRight were invited by three major retail teams to design and install their air conditioning and ventilation systems and to carry out a further installation at a fourth. They were called in at the early stages by the design teams for MAC Cosmetics (Estee Lauder), Mulberry and Benugo the premier food outlet. Collaborating with the Westfield building services design team and the store designers, AirRight were able to achieve three individual formats, all based on the DAIKIN water cooled VRV systems. Following their succesful approach to these three projects AirRight were invited by the Estee Lauder team to carry out a fourth installation at the Jo Malone store.

The Westfield central plant provided a condenser water circulation system within a constant temperature range for both summer and winter use. Capacity for each shop unit was generally based on floor area and retail type. The design challenge was to install standard DAIKIN water cooled VRV condensing units with indoor capacity to match the available load from the central system whilst maintaining full condenser water flow.

Air distribution for all four units was different; reflecting the requirements of the interior design teams whilst maintaining function. The Benugo system incorporated an impressive aluminium clad exposed duct with 'intelligent grilles' in the entrance, and circular diffusers in the seating area. MAC have opted for linear slot diffusers running either side of the barisol centre ceiling, whilst Mulberry chose concealed recessed circular diffusers. All four projects were installed simultaneously working to extremely challenging timescales, completed on time and within the budget.
